After a 2 game downswing to start the season, followed by a 2 game upswing, the Mounties are back in a downswing having dropped 3 in a row, and are now in full out desperation mode. A mode that this young group needs to learn to bring to every game.
Having now watched the Mounties play 4 games, this is a very interesting team and somewhat difficult to get a handle on. During their first 2 games this was a team that couldn’t stop a fast-break if their lives depended on it and they had no fast-break to speak of for themselves. In their last 2 games they’ve smothered their opposition all over the floor, effectively eliminating any fast-break while at the same time getting stronger and stronger with their own fast-break game.
Mounties (6) vs. Knights (5)Well it wasn’t pretty on the offensive side of the ball, but defensively both teams showed up to play and for the Mounties, it was enough to get their first win of the season bringing them to 1 – 2 and a quick turnaround with a Sunday game up in Edmonton against the 2009 league champion Eclipse.
The two teams that ended the 2009 season in an epic seven-game series were both looking to prove something in their first battle of the season.
After defeating the Jr. Mountaineers in their season opener, the visiting defending league champion Edmonton Eclipse wanted to show they were still king of the hill. The Okotoks Raiders, still stung from falling one game short of going to the Minto Cup, were not about to let that happen at their home season opener.

Miners teach the Mountaineers what it means to have a transition game with a 14 – 11 road win on Mother’s Day Sunday.
It looks like the Miners have taken the lessons they learned as a young team in 2009, and are now applying them with success in 2010. The victim this time was the Mountaineers.
