Eclipse (11) vs. Mounties (8)
It’s finally here! The 2010 Alberta Jr A season is officially underway, and it started with a good one up North with the visiting Mountaineers taking on the Eclipse at Bill Hunter arena.
It looked like both clubs had some first-game nerves but it was the Eclipse who managed to deal with them a little quicker as they got things going early in the first period and were able to maintain momentum and take advantage of sloppy play by the Mountaineers throughout the first 20 minutes. 3 – 1 Eclipse after one.
It looked like the Mountaineers managed to get things together offensively for the second period and put 4 on the board. The problem was that their defence wasn’t with the program and the Eclipse burned them for another 4 goals. That’s 4 each in the second, but a 7 – 5 Eclipse lead.
Things remained interesting in the third and the Eclipse were a tower of consistency, running another 4 past the Mountaineers young goaltender and holding off a late Mounties charge, ultimately holding them to 3 goals for an 11 – 8 win.
